Born and raised in Charleston, West Virginia, Turley Richards discovered his gift for music at an early age. Despite losing most of his sight in adulthood, Turley refused to let adversity define him — instead channeling every challenge into a deeper, more soulful artistic expression that would span over five decades.
A Career Spanning Five Decades
Turley's career began taking shape in the 1960s, when his powerful voice and natural showmanship attracted the attention of major industry players. He went on to be signed by seven major record labels — Warner Brothers, Columbia, Atlantic, Epic, MGM, and 20th Century Fox — a testament to the lasting appeal of his artistry.
Along the way, Turley appeared on some of the most iconic stages and television programs in America: Dick Clark's American Bandstand, The Tonight Show, The Merv Griffin Show, and The David Frost Show. His live performances took him to stages across the country alongside legends like Aretha Franklin, Miles Davis, Tony Bennett, The 5th Dimension, and dozens more.
As a songwriter, Turley has written and published over 600 songs, weaving together the soul, gospel, R&B, and pop influences that define his sound. His latest work, The Man In Me, is a compilation spanning 1970–2020 that reflects the full arc of his extraordinary journey.
Giving Back Through Music
Today, Turley channels decades of professional knowledge into coaching the next generation of musicians. Working out of his professional 12-track studio in Louisville, KY, he offers vocal coaching, songwriting instruction, studio recording, music therapy, and music business consulting — drawing on 40+ years of hands-on experience in New York, Los Angeles, and Nashville.
His mission is simple: pass on the craft, the discipline, and the joy that music has given him, so that the next generation can build something equally extraordinary.
